Day 25: Adoration

We worship the God of the universe, the One who spoke the finely tuned galaxies into existence. He is the God of the Christmas star, the God of the virgin birth, the God of heavenly armies. We must always hold His majesty and deity at the forefront of our minds. And yet Jesus put on humanity, came to dwell among us, and condescended to share in our sorrows. The incarnation is a wondrous incongruity, a surprise, and a delight. We should greet Christmas with incredulous laughter. It’s hardly believable! And yet it’s true! Jesus is real! He is not only worthy of our worship, but of our faithfulness as well. We have nothing of value to offer him in return for his great gift of salvation. But as Christians, we have been enabled by his grace to practice joyful obedience and worship. Though our efforts are flawed, and we are but poor sinners, Christ clothes us in his righteousness, and presents us to the Father as spotless sons and daughters. Is this not a divine and perfect love? And it is for us.

Christians: today and every day, we adore Him; today and every day, we sing.

Scriptures to ponder:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5;14

The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” The LORD sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies! Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours. The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” Psalm 110:1-4

Hymn to enjoy:
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come, and behold Him, born the King of angels!

Refrain:
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

Sing, choirs of angels; sing in exultation;
sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest!

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv’n!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!
