Homeschool Curriculum Choices 2019/20

Congratulate us, for we have recently finished our curriculum for this last year! I know what you’re thinking. Um, school ended in June, didn’t it? What is wrong with that Bryant family? Is their mom not on top of things?! Summer gasped its last breath, the malaise of August heat finally broke, and first-day-of-school photos dominated social media while those poor children were doing two math lessons a day in a race against the lapse of their online subscription! Shocking.

However, in my defense, we made it, and after one idle week, we rolled right into the 2019/20 adventure. I have actually been ordering bits and bobs for this next year in small batches since April. And no, that’s not because I have a problem with getting tired of what we’re doing early on and letting my eye wander to the next cool thing. Okay. Maybe that’s why. At any rate, before you pity the poor waifs for not getting a real summer break, let me assure you that they’ve had plenty of breaks all year, hence the late finish.

I love, love, love hearing about what other homeschool moms are using for curriculum. I will never tire of this conversation. And I have a hunch that I am not alone. So without further ado, here’s what we have going on this year.

So, the bottom line is, I LOVE everything that we’re doing this year. We’re two-plus weeks in, and this has by far been the most positive I’ve ever felt about our curriculum.

I’ve explained in depth in the past why we work in lower grade levels of Rod & Staff, but for now I’ll simply say that it enables my kids to work more independently, while remaining rigorous enough for my taste.

Also I should mention that this year we’re reading through Wisdom From the Millers, an anectodal Proverbs devotion that has been surprisingly fun, as well as reading aloud through Luke, Acts, and the New Testament Epistles. I have a goal for the kids to memorize as much as Colossians as possible. And finally (drumroll), I’m dreaming, scribbling, and fussing about writing a weekly hymn study/devotional here at the blog, likely to start in January.
